Georgia Traffic Safety & Point Reduction Requirements
Under Georgia Code §40-5-86, drivers can attend a defensive driving course once every five years to reduce up to 7 points from their driving record. Georgia uses a point system where accumulating 15 points within 24 months results in license suspension.
Georgia courts may also order traffic safety education as a condition of probation for serious traffic offenses including reckless driving (§40-6-390), aggressive driving (§40-6-397), and racing on highways (§40-6-186).
Georgia requires a 6-hour defensive driving course for point reduction purposes. The course must be completed through an approved provider and covers traffic laws, defensive driving techniques, and risk awareness.
