Arizona Traffic Safety & Traffic Survival School Requirements
Arizona's Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) may require drivers to attend Traffic Survival School (TSS) under ARS §28-3306 for accumulating excessive points or for specific serious violations. TSS is an 8-hour program covering defensive driving techniques and traffic law awareness.
Arizona uses a point system where accumulating 8 or more points within 12 months, or 13 or more points within 24 months, triggers a TSS requirement. Accumulating too many points beyond that can result in license suspension.
For court-ordered traffic safety education beyond TSS requirements, Arizona judges have discretion to set the duration as part of probation or sentencing for traffic offenses.
Arizona Traffic Violations & Point System
ARS §28-701 — Speeding
3 points for most speeding violations. Excessive speeding (20+ mph over) is a Class 3 misdemeanor with 3 points.
ARS §28-645 — Red Light Violations
2-point violation for failure to stop at a red signal.
ARS §28-693 — Reckless Driving
Class 2 misdemeanor with 8 points. Courts frequently order traffic safety education.
