Alabama allows judges to order traffic safety education as a condition of probation or as part of a plea agreement for traffic violations. Under Alabama Code §32-5A-8, traffic offenses are handled by municipal and district courts with judicial discretion on sentencing.
Alabama uses a point system managed by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). Accumulating 12-14 points within 2 years results in a 60-day suspension; 15-17 points results in a 90-day suspension; 18-20 points results in a 120-day suspension; and 21+ points results in a 180-day suspension.
Alabama does not have a formal statewide ticket dismissal through traffic school program, but courts may consider traffic safety course completion favorably during sentencing.
