New Mexico offers a Defensive Driving School program under NMSA §66-8-102.2 that allows eligible drivers to have a traffic violation dismissed by completing a court-approved course. The program is available once every 12 months.
New Mexico uses a point system where accumulating 7 or more points within 12 months triggers a 1-year license suspension. The MVD administers the system.
For court-ordered traffic safety education beyond the defensive driving dismissal, judges have discretion to set requirements as part of sentencing.
