Florida Traffic Safety & Driver Improvement Requirements
Florida offers the 4-hour Basic Driver Improvement (BDI) course under Florida Statute ยง318.14(9), which allows eligible drivers to elect to attend traffic school to avoid points on their driving record. Drivers may elect BDI up to five times in their lifetime and no more than once per 12-month period.
For more serious violations or habitual offenders, Florida courts may order the 12-hour Advanced Driver Improvement (ADI) course under ยง318.14. ADI is mandatory for drivers whose licenses have been suspended for accumulating too many points (12 points in 12 months, 18 in 18 months, or 24 in 36 months).
Florida also requires a Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) course for first-time driver's license applicants and a DUI program for DUI convictions. Our traffic safety course covers general traffic safety education suitable for court-ordered and voluntary improvement purposes.

Florida Traffic Safety FAQs
How does Florida's Basic Driver Improvement (BDI) work?
After receiving a traffic citation, you can elect to attend the 4-hour BDI course. Upon completion, the points from the violation are withheld from your driving record. You still pay the ticket fine, but the points don't affect your license or insurance. You can elect BDI up to 5 times in your lifetime.
How many hours of traffic school does Florida require?
The standard BDI course is 4 hours. The Advanced Driver Improvement (ADI) course for habitual offenders or court-ordered cases is 12 hours. Our course offers both 4-hour and 12-hour options.
Can I take Florida traffic school online?
Yes. Florida allows online completion of the BDI and other traffic safety courses. Our course is accessible 24/7 from any device.
Will traffic school prevent my insurance from going up in Florida?
Yes. By electing BDI, the points are withheld from your record, which prevents your insurance company from seeing the violation and raising your rates.
